Dr Helen Murray is speaking to us. Dr Helen ia a senior research fellow at the Centre for Brain Research and leads the Brain Injury and Neurodegeneration research group. She is currently supported by a Neurological Foundation Senior Research Fellowship.

Dr Murray completed her PhD at the University of Auckland in 2017, supervised by Professor Maurice Curtis, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship in 2020 with Dr Alan Koretsky at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, USA, before returning to New Zealand.

Her research explores the biological mechanisms linking repeated head impacts and neurodegeneration. She has specific expertise in the neuropathology of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE), Alzheimer's disease, and Parkinson's disease. Dr Murray studies post-mortem human brain tissue donated to the Neurological Foundation of NZ Human Brain Bank and uses a novel tissue labelling technique called multiplex immunohistochemistry to label up to 100 proteins on a single piece of tissue. This powerful, high-content labelling and analysis approach allows different tissue pathologies to be assessed at a single-cell level using just one tissue section.

Dr Murray is also a New Zealand representative in Ice Hockey, having played for the New Zealand Ice Fernz since 2013 and captaining the team from 2016-2020. Her research is closely aligned with her experience as an athlete and her expertise in human neuropathology research.

Remuera Club Meeting
Jun 08, 2026 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM
PLEASE READ THE ATTACHED

Fellows,
As reported in Rapport, our sister Club Remuera have graciously invited our membership to join them at their dinner meeting on Monday 8th June.
It is at 5.30pm for 6.00 at the Carlton Cornwall Bowling Club, 126 Market Road, Epsom.
Cost is $40.00.
Please transfer the funds to their account
Rotary Club of Remuera
Account number: 02 0256 0118563 000
Particulars: your name, Reference: 0806

I hope we can have a good turn out of members for this meeting for the reasons below.
If you wish to attend would you please indicate this to either myself or John Hawke. We need to give them our numbers for catering purposes, at least a week beforehand.
Please also indicate any special dietary requirements.

Reasons you should accept this invitation.
1. Newmarket sponsored the formation of the Remuera Club 46 years ago and this invitation to join them is historic.
2. Newmarket Club's relationship with Dilworth School goes back a long way (before I joined the Club in 1976) and while in Rotary Protocol terms, Dilworth has for some time been the allocated responsibility of the Remuera Club we have a shared interest between the 2 Clubs as regards fostering Rotary programmes in the school and we work together in this regard. Newmarket has a number of active legacy programmes of support to the school.
3. The speaker at the dinner is Dan Reddiex, the Headmaster at the school who has lead its rejuvenation following the issues that arose immediately after his appointment. He is sure to deliver a very interesting and positive address, given the outstanding recovery the school has made in just 6 years.

I have heard Dan Reddiex speak a number of times and I believe he is inspirational and a grounded positive advocate in these difficult times of education delivery and maintenance of standards and values.

I encourage you all to accept this invitation from our sister Club.
I hope you will join me and I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards
Richard Solomon

Dinner Meeting: Vocationals from our young members
Jun 09, 2026 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM

Please confrim or deline before Friday June 5th 11am for catering purposes.

The long term future of Newmarket Rotary is very much in the hands of the cohort of young members that we have attracted over the last two years, and are continuing to attract.

So we're excited to have three of these young leaders as our speakers for our next Tuesday dinner meeting. Henry Thomas- Kircher, Sarah Willerton and Kelly Botha all hold down important positions in large companies: F&P Healthcare, Shell and Watercare respectively, and so it's going to be very interesting to hear their stories and how they see the future, both in their careers and in Rotary.

Breakfast : Cris Print - In the steps of my Father
Jun 16, 2026 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM

As you know, the exceptional Art Collection at One Tree Hill College was established by school principal and Rotarian, the late Murray Print.

Son Cris will be sharing memories of his father’s memorable purchasing in early days (when art works were cheap!) and he will be joined by Murray’s grandchildren William and Lucy, as well as Curator Paul Baragwanath.

Rotarians who are able to stay after the 8.30 meeting conclusion, will be most welcome to join a visit to the upstairs Knowledge Centre, where various works are on display.
