The Rotary Year for the Rotary Club of Newmarket kicked of with a bang, a splendid changeover welcoming new presidents David & David or simply David2.
We welcomed Joyti Singh DG for 9920 to our breakfast meeting at One Tree Hill College. Her address is covered elsewhere in this bulletin.
As well as the DG visit there were other matters grabbing our attention, including Ryan Fox becoming Champion Golfer of the Year, receiving for his efforts, a gold medal, some money, endless glory as an Open winner and a Claret Jug (which he has to give back) which was first awarded to the first Open Championship winner in 1873. And then the World Cup final when a star team defeated a team relying on past glories of a faded and jaded star.
All in all, a good week.
And because your editor is a yachting tragic 22 August 2026 marks the 175th Anniversary of the first race for the Americas Cup off the Island of Cowes. Time does fly!

DISTRICT GOVERNOR VISIT: CREATING LASTING IMPACT WITH DG JOYTI SINGH
At our recent meeting on 20 July 2026, the Rotary Club of Auckland Newmarket was honoured to host District Governor Joyti Singh for her official club visit.
DG Joyti shared an inspiring address outlining the vision for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, emphasizing regional collaboration, youth empowerment, and strategic growth across our district.
DG Joyti introduced the global theme set by RI President Olayinka Babalola: "Create Lasting Impact." The focus for the year centres on:
Fostering welcoming and inclusive club environments.
Delivering high-impact, sustainable local and global service projects.
Enhancing personal growth and leadership opportunities for all members.
District Strategic Priorities & Goals
DG Joyti outlined several key initiatives from the District 9920 strategic roadmap:
Membership Growth & Retention: Target of a net increase of 60 members across the district and chartering 2 new clubs. Clubs are strongly encouraged to appoint dedicated Membership Chairs focused on retention and member experience.
Public Image: Increasing awareness by regularly sharing impact stories, videos, and project highlights on digital and local media channels.
Youth Leadership: Strengthening connections between Rotary, Rotaract, and high school Interact clubs to build a seamless path for young community leaders.
District Grants: Encouraging clubs to leverage Rotary Foundation global and district grants for community initiatives.
Key Service & Community Focus Areas
Days for Girls (Pacific Islands): Expanding distribution of reusable sanitary kits and health education to young girls in Fijian and Samoan schools to support educational continuity.
Say No to Domestic Violence: Launching a unified New Zealand district initiative modeled after Rotary Australia’s successful community awareness campaign.
Regionalization & Future District Structure
DG Joyti provided an update on the Zone 8 Regionalization Pilot (covering Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific Islands):
District Mergers (Effective 1 July 2028): To address long-term demographic shifts, New Zealand’s five districts will consolidate into two streamlined districts.
District 9920 Integration: Districts 9910, 9920, and 9930 will merge into a single Northern district, maintaining strong regional ties with our partner clubs across the Pacific Islands.
💬 Highlights from the Q&A Session
Interact to Rotaract Transitions: Members discussed concrete ways to help high school Interact graduates transition smoothly into local Rotaract clubs.
Public Awareness: DG Joyti highlighted new video initiatives aimed at boosting public recognition of Rotary's humanitarian work.
